NBTY Acquires Canadian Supplement Firm

BOHEMIA, N.Y.Days afterannouncing plans to acquire Solgar Vitamin and Herb, NBTY (NYSE:NTY) purchasedBritish Columbia-based SISU Inc., a well-established brand of nutritionalsupplements sold in health food stores in Canada; the purchase price includes$5.7 million in cash, in addition to $2.5 million to cover SISUs debt. SISUhas reported net assets worth $330,000 and posted revenues of $14 million (USD)for its last fiscal year, ended September 2004.

Scott Randolph, chairman and chief executive officer of NBTY,said the acquisition will help expand NBTYs presence in Canada, as the25-year old SISU brand is solidly entrenched with Canadian consumers. Withour financial strength and proven management expertise, NBTY remains thepredominant consolidator in the nutritional supplement industry, he noted.
