UNITED ARAB EMIRATES--According to the online edition of Gulf News (www.gulf-news.com), the United Arab Emirates(UAE) set up an Office of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (OCAM) through the Ministry of Health. This office will oversee the practice of alternative medicine through licensed practitioners in such fields as homeopathy,Ayurveda, unani, chiropractic, herbal medicine, osteopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). In addition, the Department of Medicines Control at the Health Ministry has created a five-member committee, headed by Dr. Fatima Ali Abdullah, which will register alternative medicine and will seek expert help in standardizing alternative therapies.

The paper said that those wishing to practice alternative medicine will need to pass an examination administered by OCAM, as well as hold a degree in alternative medicine.
