WASHINGTONThe Natural Products Association (NPA) launched the NPA Fact of the Week, as part of a broader outreach campaign begun by NPA for the 112th Congress. The weekly e-mail will be sent to Congressional staffers who handle health issues for their representative or senator.

NPA is the leading voice of the natural products industry," said John Gay, NPA executive director and CEO. This new effort helps us educate both the newly-elected and veteran members of Congress so that they are well-informed about the issues facing our industry. The NPA Fact of the Week also gives us an opportunity to provide accurate information about dietary supplements and how they support consumer health."

The first NPA Fact of the Week was emailed Jan. 18, 2011 and highlighted a recent study released in the Journal of Nutrition that shows about one-half of the U.S. population uses dietary supplements, while about one-third uses multivitamin-multimineral dietary supplements.

NPA will post each Fact of the Week on its Facebook, and will tweet about the Fact of the Week.

NPA, founded in 1936, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the natural products industry. NPA represents more than 1,900 members accounting for more than 10,000 retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of natural products, including foods, dietary supplements, and health/beauty aids. NPAs mission is to advocate for the rights of consumers to have access to products that will maintain and improve their health, and for the rights of retailers and suppliers to sell these products.
