Iowa Tables Biotech Bill
DES MOINES, Iowa--Republican Senators of the State of Iowa declared that a proposed bill addressing biotech farming concerns would not be discussed this session because it lacks support. Sen. Derryl McLaren, a Farrugut Republican, drafted the bill in preparation for potential cases involving small companies so farmers who follow sound management practices can avoid financially damaging cases. The state bill would outline safeguards for farmers planting biotech crops so they could not be held liable for contaminating the food supply. McLaren plans to introduce a similar bill next year.
