Red Clover May Reduce Hot Flashes

NEW ORLEANS--At the meeting of the North American Menopause Society (www.menopause.org), held here Oct. 4, researchers led byP.H.M. van de Weijer and R. Barentsen announced that Promensil, a red clover isoflavone product manufactured by Australia-basedNovogen, significantly reduced hot flashes in menopausal women. During the double blind, placebo-controlled study involving 30 women with acute menopausal symptoms, women taking two 40 mg tablets of Promensil daily for three months experienced a 44-percent reduction in hot flashes as compared to placebo. "This is the latest in a series of clinical studies indicating that the unique red clover isoflavones found in Promensil significantly reduce the hot flashes associated with menopause," said Alan Husband, professor at Sydney University and director of research for Novogen (www.novogen.com). "Data accumulated from Promensil studies worldwide involving more than 800 women have built a compelling case."
