Covance Obtains Japanese Certification

PRINCETON, N.J.--Covance has been registered as acertified laboratory by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, making the company one of a few U.S. labs credentialed for testing food anddietary supplements products for sale in Japan. Covance initially soughtJapanese certification in response to its customers' needs in the dietarysupplement arena. However, the new accreditation also allows Covance to supplytesting data on a full range of food and dietary supplement products for exportand sale in Japan, according to the company.

"Previously, if customers wanted to sell their products inJapan, often they were forced to duplicate many of the testing procedures thatthey had already performed in the United States," said Randall Smith, vicepresident of analytical services at Covance. "Now that Covance is certifiedby the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, our customers canconsolidate all of their testing needs. This will eliminate costly duplicationand reduce time to market in Japan."
