Farmland and DMV USA Form Joint Venture
VEGHEL, Netherlands--FarmlandNational Beef Packing Co. and DMV USA, a part of DMV International (www.dmv-international.com),have signed a joint venture agreement to manufacture and market activatedlactoferrin, a new food safety technology that protects consumers from harmfulbacteria found in meat.
Lactoferrin is a protein found in milk and has been shown to provide fresh meat with an added level of protection against pathogenic bacteria, including E. coli and salmonella. The technology is planned for use on fresh beef.
The joint venture will open a new research and development laboratory in Pomona, Calif., to pursue additional uses for the technology, such as chicken, pork, fish and fresh produce. "The combination of DMV's lactoferrin experience and Farmland's knowledge of the beef industry, branding and premium beef marketing is a perfect marriage," said Cees de Jong, group director of DMV International. "We are very excited about being able to improve the safety of meat and address consumer concerns about food safety with the activated lactoferrin technology."
