DSM, Fudan Open Joint Laboratory

SHANGHAIDSM NutritionalProducts opened a joint laboratory at Fudan University here; the move is part ofa long-term research cooperation between DSM and Fudan in nutrition and health.The Fudan-DSM Joint Lab provides lab space, seminar rooms and infrastructure forup to 30 scientists. In the first phase of the project, approximately 10scientists will work under the guidance of Fener Chen, Ph.D., researching chiraltechnologies, synthetic methods for production of vitamins, carotenoids and newfood/feed ingredients.

DSM is actively seeking partnerships with top researchinstitutions in China, and anticipates the partnership will strengthen itsbusiness and research activities in Asia. The combination of highly skilledand educated scientists from Fudan University, along with the long-termexpertise and business and science know-how of DSM Nutrition Products, raises myexpectations for high-value scientific contributions and fast, efficientprogress in this area, said Manfred Eggersdorfer, R&D director for DSMNutritional Products (www.nutraaccess.com).
